Elm Burl Wavey and Textured Bowl
This great piece of natural art started life as an elm partial burl back in December 2022. It was turned green, meaning it was freshly cut and still had a lot of internal moisture, and was a thin-walled partial live edge bowl. When left to dry naturally, thin walls will move and distort, giving a slight wave edge effect, and a very interesting texture to the surface, the photos don’t do it justice. The surface inside has contracted in some places, giving an almost geometric look and feel, which sounds strange, but it is very pretty, and definitely a talking point!
There is a slight distortion on the base (it was not just the walls that moved), so will move if pressed, but it will sit stably on by itself.
The finish is “Chestnut Food Safe Finish”, which gives it a hard wearing satin appearance. While it is food safe, I would not recommend letting the piece get wet and drying it as soon as possible if it does. Using gentle natural furniture or chopping board wax with a soft pad or cloth once a year will help keep the shine and help protect the wood.
Material: Scottish grown elm, sourced from Fyne Wood.
Size: H 7cm (highest point) x W 19cm (widest point).
