Small Elm Burl Bowl
This bowl is cut from a piece of elm burl that was destined for the fire. It was heavily water damaged which caused much of the wood to become soft and papery. This is evident when you feel the surface, and there are some unintended contours where some of the papery wood sanded faster than the harder parts. The burl swirls are still visible, despite the moisture damage shifting the colour to a paler and speckled appearance.
The wood has been stabilised with a cellulose sealer which has helped harden it and protect it from further degeneration. The result, is a beautiful natural display. The live edge still sports some sections of bark, adding to the natural aesthetic of the piece.
Finished with Chestnut Food Safe Finish, this plate is food safe, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. It is NOT dishwasher safe! If it needs cleaning, please use a gentle natural soap with warm, not hot, water on a soft non-abrasive pad and dry immediately.
Material: Scottish grown elm, sourced from Fyne Wood.
Size: H 7.5cm (highest side) x W 13cm
