Large Elm Bowl with Burned Rings
This bowl is cut from a lump of elm which has a deep crack running through it. This is one of the few times I’ve had to use epoxy to stabilise a crack, but it turned out very nicely.
Cut to a classic domed wall style, this bowl features two burned rings. This is done by cutting two rings and blow torching the area, then the surrounding raised parts are cut flush, leaving the clean burned rings behind.
The figure in this piece is classic elm, with the speckled grain and chatoyance giving it a beautiful glint under different light.
Finished with pure tung oil, this bowl is food safe, so would make an excellent centre piece or fruit bowl. However, if it’s used to hold any citrus fruits, it will need fairly regular waxing to prevent the acidic skins damaging the finish. It is NOT dishwasher safe! if it needs cleaning, please use a gentle natural soap with warm, not hot, water on a soft non-abrasive pad and dry immediately.
Material: Scottish grown elm, sourced from Fyne Wood.
Size: H 6cm x W 29cm
